The Keker First Year Common Read is designed to introduce new students to the intellectual life of UNCG. The Keker First Year Common Read, offered through New Student Transitions & First Year Experience, is an opportunity for new students to become immersed into the UNCG academic environment prior to arriving on campus in the fall. Students have the opportunity to read a common read book and engage in curricular and co-curricular learning through classroom discussions and special programs.
The Keker First Year Common Read is a dynamic program offered to new, incoming UNCG students that provides:
- An introduction to academic expectations and intellectual engagement;
- A common experience with peers and faculty;
- Opportunities for self-reflection, critical thinking, and community involvement;
- A powerful, meaningful, and fun experience in a student’s first year.
The Keker First Year Common Read supports the university’s mission by fostering intellectual inquiry to prepare students for meaningful lives and engaged citizenship. The Keker First Year Common Read aims to support a collaborative effort on-campus and in the surrounding community to bring about a combined positive effect enhancing student learning, success, and retention.
The read is also an integral component of UNCG’s QEP global engagement initiative. To learn more about global engagement at UNCG, please click to Go Global! below.
