Join us for The Chancellor’s New Student Convocation on Sunday, August 18th, 2013. This formal ceremony marks the official beginning of your academic career at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
This year, as a part of the Chancellor’s New Student Convocation, family members of Henrietta Lacks the subject of this year’s First-Year Summer Read, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, will speak and answer the audiences’ questions. For more information regarding the First-Year Summer Read and the Lacks’ family visit please visit the First-Year Summer Read website.
Just as commencement is a ritual marking the completion of study, The Chancellor’s New Student Convocation is a ritual that signals the beginning of a college career. The Chancellor’s New Student Convocation brings new students together with faculty and staff to mark a new beginning. Students will be recognized and welcomed by the Chancellor, faculty, alumni, and fellow student leaders. As is tradition, each new student will receive a university seal lapel pin and a daisy, the official flower of UNCG. The ringing of the bell and the alma mater will mark the end of the ceremony; students will hear these again at commencement.
Convocation and Commencement are ritual “bookends,” traditional milestones marking the beginning and culmination of your academic journey.
All new incoming students are required to attend and dress appropriately.
